Open House New York invites developers, architects, designers, engineers, and others to submit projects for consideration for The New ReUse in Architecture, a special series presented as part of the 2017 Open House New York Weekend on October 14 and 15, 2017.
Over the course of 2017, OHNY is presenting Getting to Zero: New York + Waste, a yearlong series of tours and public programs that explores the past, present, and future of New York's waste infrastructure. Getting to Zero is intended to deepen public understanding about how New York has been shaped over time in response to the ways it has managed its waste stream and consider what possibilities a radical transformation in waste management could have for new forms of architecture and urbanism.

As part of the 2017 OHNY Weekend, Open House New York will present a juried selection of projects that demonstrate the possibilities for innovative ways to think about and practice reuse. We are especially interested in projects that have made innovative reuse of materials that might otherwise have gone to landfill, but reuse may be interpreted in the broadest sense possible. In their design and execution, projects should challenge how we commonly define "waste" and suggest new directions for recognizing waste as resource.

We welcome all types of projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure.

Submission Deadline: Monday, June 12
