알재단 제 1회 ‘아티스트 펠로십’(5천달러) 공모

비영리 미술인 지원단체 알재단(AHL Foundation, 대표 이숙녀)이 올해부터 새롭게 시작되는 미술인 지원 프로그램인 ‘알재단 아티스트 펠로십’(AHL Foundation Artist Fellowship) 지원자들을 5월 1일부터 7월 31일까지 공개 모집한다.

‘알재단 아티스트 펠로십’은 알재단이 지난 해 다우킴 가족 재단 (Dow Kim Family Foundation) 의 후원을 받아 새롭게 신설한 프로그램으로 재능있는 한인 미술 작가들을 발굴해 내어 사용에 제약이 없는 지원금과 전시 기회를 부상으로 제공한다. 

현재 알재단의 대표 프로그램으로 자리잡은 ‘현대 미술 공모전’과 마찬가지로 응모 자격은 기본적으로 미국에서 활동하고 있는 한인 미술인들에게 주어지며 최근 5년 동안 작업한 작품들로 구성된 포트폴리오와 작품설명 (artist statement) 제출을 기본으로 한다. 

한편, 알재단의 현대미술 공모전의 응모 자격이 최근 3년 이내 수상한 작가들에게는 주어지지 않는 규정과 달리 아티스트 펠로십은 과거 수상자들을 포함한 모든 한인 작가들에게 매년 응모 또는 재 응모가 가능하도록 문을 열어 놓았다. 

알재단의 이숙녀 대표는 “많은 재능있는 작가들이 경제적 지원이 부족하여 온전히 작품 활동에만 전념해 더 크게 성장 할 수 있는 기회를 놓치는 것이 늘 안타깝다”며 “아티스트 펠로십이 이런 고민을 안고 살아가는 많은 작가들에게 작은 도움이 되길 바란다”고 전했다. 

공모전 마감은 7월 31일이며 세 명의 심사위원단의 심사를 거쳐 네 명의 작가들을 선발하여 각 $5,000 의 상금과 내년 상반기에 뉴욕 시티에서 열리게 될 그룹 전시에 참여할 기회를 부상으로 제공한다. 시상식은 올 하반기에 열릴 알재단 연중 갈라행사에서 열린다.

AHL Foundation is pleased to announce its inaugural AHL Foundation Artist Fellowship.

The AHL Foundation Artist Fellowship will be awarded to exceptional but under-resourced Korean-American artists to support their creative activities.

4 selected winners will receive an award of $5000 each at the AHL Foundation’s Annual Award Ceremony & Gala in November 2019. The selected winners will also have the opportunity to showcase their works at a group exhibition in NYC in spring 2020.

Overview

AHL Foundation is pleased to announce its inaugural Artist Fellowship.  Four selected winners will receive an award of $5000 each at the AHL Foundation’s Annual Award & Gala Ceremony. Selected winners will also have the opportunity to showcase their works at agroup exhibition in NYC in Spring 2020.

AHL Foundation Artist Fellowship was possible to be established with a generous contribution of Dow Kim Family Foundation. The unrestricted Artist Fellowship will be awarded to exceptional but under-resourced Korean American artists to support their creative activities during key moments in the development of their careers in order to help propel their careers to the next level.

Eligibility

• Visual artists of Korean heritage based in the U.S. (Commercial photographers, filmmakers, and dancers are not eligible for this fellowship. However, fine art photographers, video artists, interdisciplinary artists and performance artists may apply.)
• No restrictions apply to previous recipients of any AHL Foundation grants, fellowship, and awards. Anyone may apply regardless of their past acceptances and winnings.
