Internship at Whitney Museum of American Art

Department: Director’s Office

The Director’s Office operates as part of the Museum’s executive office, which includes the Director, Chief Operating Officers, General Counsel, and Trustee Office. The Director’s 


Office supports numerous departments within the Museum, providing management, oversight, and institutional strategic planning.


Projects/work assignments:

- Support related to Trustee and donor relations

- Support of the Director’s daily activities including research on contacts, artists, exhibitions

- Assist with mail, mailings, general office processes

- Maintain gallery lists


Skills and qualifications including technology skills:

- Interest in the arts and art history

- Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail

- An open and professional demeanor

- The ability to work collaboratively as well as independently as needed.

- Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills are also desired (Word, Excel)


What type of training will be provided?

- Interns will be taught all Director’s Office processes

- Interns will be trained to use Raiser’s Edge and The Museum System programs

- Other training as needed


What skills and knowledge will the intern gain by the end of the internship?

- Interns will have exposure to numerous departments within the Museum, and gain experience in museum management, communications, and operations. 


Compensation

Interns receive regular employee discounts at the Museum restaurants and retail store, invitations to exhibition openings, and free admission to most New York City museums.
