LAURIE ANDERSON IS THE 2020 RECIPIENT OF THE VANGUARD AWARD & RESIDENCY

We are thrilled to announce Laurie Anderson as the 2020 recipient of The Vanguard Award & Residency, which celebrates the work and influence of an icon of American popular culture.
The writer, director, visual artist, and vocalist is honored for her prolific career as a creative pioneer inspiring audiences with her groundbreaking works – daring multi-media presentations and innovative use of technology across the worlds of art, theater, and experimental music. Anderson’s year of curation and performance will take shape in a monthly Sunday series of her own headlining shows and those of her collaborators, mentees and more. She said, “The series I’m planning for Joe’s Pub will feature writers as well as musicians - sometimes collaborating, sometimes jamming sometimes making entirely new things. And since it’s election season, hopefully there will be some challenging political moments as artists, writers, and musicians confront and express our tumultuous times.” Stay tuned for shows to be announced!
But first, on February 3, Anderson will be honored at the third annual Vanguard Gala with an all-star slate of artists and friends, with musical direction by Shara Nova (of My Brightest Diamond) and Chris Bruce, supporting the continuation of the award.
