About the Performers
Applauded by The Strad for her "fiery virtuosity" and "consummate performances," violinist YooJin Jang has appeared at Carnegie Hall and has performed with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra and more.

The Riverside Symphony is widely credited for bringing a unique musical perspective to classical music audiences in New York City. Founded by conductor George Rothman and composer Anthony Korf in 1981, the orchestra has been praised by The New York Times for its "richly colored, suspenseful and compelling" performances.

About the Program
Jessie Montgomery is an acclaimed composer, violinist, and educator. Her works have been described as "turbulent, wildly colorful and exploding with life" (The Washington Post). This seaqson, her new commissioned works will be premiered by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the National Choral Society, San Francisco Symphony. The New York Philharmonic has selected Montgomery as one of the featured composers for their Project 19 (a multi-year initiative to commission and premiere 19 new works by 19 women composers).

Like the roughly contemporary Adagio and Rondo concertante in F major, D 487, Schubert's utterly charming Rondo for Violin and Strings, D 438, is a concertante piece designed to highlight the skills of the violin soloist.

Oscar winner Bernard Herrmann is widely recognized for his film scores, such as Welles's Citizen Kane, Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, William Dieterle's All That Money Can Buy. His music for Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho has remained a paragon of suspense-film sound tracks. Herrmann also wrote music for various television series, including Rawhide and The Twilight Zone.

Korngold's Symphonic Serenade for String Orchestra calls for the utmost in virtuoso string playing. The piece opens with an exceptionally beautiful theme in the more positive mood, which is quickly contrasted with the darker material; the two ideas contend for the rest of the movement, and for many parts of the entire work.
