페어웨이 수퍼마켓 문닫는다?

뉴욕의 인기 수퍼마켓 페어웨이(Fairway)가 완전 폐업에 들어간다고 뉴욕포스트가 21일 보도했다.
페어웨이는 챕터 11이 아닌 챕터 7 신청으로 맨해튼 72스트릿, 할렘, 첼시, 킵스 베이와 브루클린 레드훅 등 14개 스토어를 전면 폐업할 예정이다.
1933년 오픈한 페어웨이는 저렴한 가격으로 뉴요커들에게 인기를 얻어오며 지점을 확장했지만, 홀푸드, 트레이더 조 등과의 경쟁에서 허덕거렸다.
현재 페어웨이는 72스트릿 렌트 600만 달러를 비롯 1억7천400만 달러의 부채에 시달리고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
한편, 페어웨이는 파산 보도에 대해 챕터 7 계획이 없으며, 모든 스토어가 정상영업한다고 트위터에 올렸다.
