데이빗 딘킨스(David Dinkins, 1927-2020) 전 뉴욕시장(1990-1993)이 23일 자택에서 세상을 떠났다.

딘킨스는 뉴저지주 트렌톤에서 이발사의 아들로 태어나 할렘에서 성장했다. 하워드대 수학과와 브루클린 로스쿨 졸업 후 변호사로 일하다가 정계에 투신 1990년 뉴욕시 최초의 흑인 시장으로 당선됐다.   

2003년 회고록 'A Mayor's Life: Governing New York's Gorgeous Mosaic'를 출간했다.
