뉴저지 크레스킬에 사는 한정우(Jyung Han, 46)씨가 지난 11일 오전 11시경 눈이 내리는 팰레세이즈 인터스테이트 파크웨이(뉴욕주 나누엣)에서 테슬라S를 운전하다가 도로에서 미끄러지면서 중앙분리대의 나무와 충돌해 사망했다. 경찰에 따르면, 충돌로 테슬라S의 리튬 배터리가 점화되어 화재 진압에 2시간 동안 수천 갤런의 물이 필요했다. 차량에는 운전자 한씨만 타고 있었다.
