'오펜하이머' 작품, 감독, 남우주조연 등 7개 부문상 석권

로버트 다우니 주니어, 엠마 스톤, 제니퍼 로렌스 아시안 차별 비판 쇄도

 

 

제 96회  아카데미상 시상식에서 크리스토퍼 놀란 감독의 '오펜하이머'가 작품상, 감독상, 남우주연상, 남우조연상, 촬영상, 작곡상 등 7개 부문을 석권했다. 세계 최초로 핵무기 개발에 기여한 미 물리학자 J, 로버트 오펜하이머의 삶을 다룬 전기 영화로 13개 후보에 지명됐었다.

 

여우주연상은 '가여운 것들(Poor Things)'의 엠마 스톤이 수상했다. 스톤은 '플라워 킬링 문'의 원주민계 배우 릴리 글래드스톤과 경합 끝에 2016년 '라라 랜드'에 이어 두번째 오스카 트로피를 품에 안았다.

 

 

 

한편, '오펜하이머'로 남우조연상을 수상한 로버트 다우니 주니어와 '가여운 것들'로 여우조연상을 수상한 엠마 스톤의 무대 매너가 소셜미디어에서 인종차별 논란을 불러일으켰다. 로버트 다우니 주니어는 지난해 남우조연상(에브리싱 에브리웨어 올엣원스 ) 수상자인 베트남계 키 후이콴이 이름을 호명하고 오스카 트로피를 건내주었지만, 눈 마주침조차 없이 트로피를 낚아채고 무대의 팀 로빈스와는 악수, 샘 로크웰과는 주먹을 부딪힌 후 소감을 발표했다. 이에 대해 키 후이콴을 웨이터 /투명인간 취급했다는 비난을 샀다.

그리고, 엠마 스톤은 지난해 수상자인 양자경(미셸 여, 에브리싱 에브리웨어 올엣원스)의 호명 후 무대에 올라가면서 자신의 드레스 지퍼가 망가진 것에 대해 언급한 후 미셸 여로부터 오스카 트로피를 받으려했지만, 그녀의 친구인 배우 제니퍼 로렌스가 말리는 샐리 필드를 제쳐놓고 오스카 트로피를 낚아 채 스톤과 포옹을 했다.

이 해프닝은 백인들에게 뿌리박힌 아시안 경멸의식의 발현이라는 비판이 쏟아졌다. 시상식을 중계한 ABC-TV 측도 갑자기 시상자로 전 수상자들을 5명 무대에 세운 것 자체가 아시안을 무대의 중심에서 소외시키려는 의도라는 분석도 나왔다.  

 

 

 

셀린 송 감독의 데뷔작 '전생(Past Lives)'는 작품상과 각본상, 한인 피터 손 감독의 '엘리멘탈'은 애니메이션상 후보에 올랐지만 수상하지는 못했다. 오스카 시상식의 지난해 사망한 영화인들 섹션에선 고 이선균씨도 추모됐다.

 

2024 오스카상 시상식은 3월 10일 할리우드 돌비시어터에서 지미 키멜 사회로 열렸으며, ABC-TV로 중계방송됐다.
