트레이더 조(Trader Joe's)에서 판매되는 에브리싱 베이글 양념(Everything Bagel Seasoning, $1.99)이 한국 공항에서 압류되고 있다고 뉴욕타임스가 보도했다. 마늘, 양파, 양귀비 씨앗 등이 혼합된 에브리싱 베이글 양념은 밀수품으로 간주되고 있다는 것.

문제는 이 양념의 성분 양귀비 씨앗(poppy seeds)로 한국에선 2022년부터 금지된 품목이다. 양귀비 씨앗은 아편은 아니지만, 수확 때 아편이 함유된 양귀비의 체액에 의해 오염될 수 있다. 양귀비 씨앗 제품을 섭취하면 약물 테스트에서 양성 반응이 나올 수 있다. 

아랍에미리트도 양귀비 씨앗이 금지 품목이며, 싱가포르에선 양귀비 씨앗을 수입하려면 아편 테스트용 샘플을 제출해야 한다. 

조선일보에 따르면, 한국 관세청은 7월 22일부터 8월 11일까지 3주간 휴대품 집중단속을 예고하며, ‘여름 휴가철 해외여행자 주의사항’ 자료를 발표하며 국내 여행객이 귀국하면서 마약류 재료가 들어간 식품을 혼돈해 반입하지 않도록 요청했다.
