맨해튼 첼시의 포스터하우스(Poster House)에서 할리우드 포스터 디자이너 돈 베일리(Dawn Baillie)의 작품을 소개하는 특별전 '영화 포스터의 해부: 돈 베일리의 작품(The Anatomy of a Movie Poster: The Work of Dawn Baillie)'이 3월 14일부터 9월 8일까지 열린다.

 

1964년 할리우드에서 태어나 오티스 아트앤디자인대학교에서 커뮤니케이션 디자인&일러스트레이션을 전공한 돈 베일리는 1987년 영화 '더티 댄싱(Dirty Dancing)'의 포스터를 디자인했다. 이후 '양들의 침묵(The Silence of the Lambs)' '트루만 쇼(The Truman Show)' '시애틀의 잠못 이루는 밤(Sleepless in Seattle)' '리틀 미스 선샤인(Little Miss Sunshine)' 등의 포스터를 만들었다.

 

2012년 할리우드의 전설적인 디자이너 이름을 딴 사울배스상(Saul Bass Award)을 받았다. 

 

 

 

The Anatomy of a Movie Poster: The Work of Dawn Baillie

In a career that spans nearly four decades at three design agencies, Dawn Baillie has worked on some of the most iconic and beloved posters in modern cinematic history. Few designers can claim something as recognizable as Dirty Dancing as their first professional project. Fewer still have the litany of award-winning masterpieces in their portfolios that have been a running thread throughout her career. From Silence of the Lambs to Little Miss Sunshine, Dawn Baillie has designed and art directed posters that stand out for their remarkable simplicity and unconventional execution, a reserved and intellectual blend that leaves the viewer curious and eager to see a film.

 

As a founding partner of BLT Communications, Dawn and her team continue to be hired by various movie studio creative executives and filmmakers to collaborate on images that serve as branding for a film through movie posters and advertising campaigns. This exhibition chronicles not only her impressive career from junior designer to creative director, but also serves to showcase the evolution of the production of movie posters of the past 35 years, from paste-ups to the introduction of computer technology.
