록스타 프린스(Prince, 1958-2016)가 치던 전기기타 Vox HDC-77 Guita가 런던 소더비에서 경매된다. 이 기타는 그래미 7호 수상 프린스의 펑크록 시대를 대표하는 악기다. 8월 29일부터 9월 12일까지 소더비의 첫 '대중문화 경매(Popular Culture)'에서 온라인으로 입찰할 수 있다.

How Prince and the Vox HDC-77 Guitar Defined an Era of Funk | Science and Popular Culture | Sotheby’s

 

Sotheby’s inaugural Popular Culture auction brings together significant artefacts from the worlds of music, film and entertainment, with bidding opening online from 29 August until the sale closes on 12 September 2024. The online auction will be open to the public in a dedicated exhibition in London's New Bond Street galleries from Monday 9 September. The curated offering will celebrate and showcase historically important and high-end items from icons of Popular Culture.

A Stage-Played Vox HDC-77 Electric Guitar, Used Extensively Throughout The 3RDEYEGIRL Era, 2013-15

Serial number S1001276 to rear of headstock, in blackburst finish.

Estimate 200,000 - 300,000 GBP

 

Extensively stage-played including during the legendary HitNRun tour across the UK, US & Canada in 2014 and 2015, comprising both arena shows and intimate secret performances in venues across London. At all of these shows Prince performed with his 3RDEYEGIRL bandmates Donna Grantis (guitar), Ida Nielsen (bass), and Hannah Welton (drums).

 

The seven-time GRAMMY Award-winning music icon played this blackburst VOX guitar throughout his 3RDEYEGIRL era. Documented performances with the guitar include the final night of his famed Montreux Jazz Festival appearance on 15th July 2013; throughout his 3RDEYEGIRL HITnRUN Tours of 2014-2015 in the UK, including at London's KOKO Club, the Electric Ballroom and Shepherd’s Bush Empire; and venues across the United States and Canada including at the Baltimore ‘Rally 4 Peace’ on 10th May 2015, and Prince’s final band performance with 3RDEYEGIRL in Washington, DC on the 14th June 2015.

 

The guitar has an estimate of £200,000 – £300,000, and marks the first time this important instrument has been available to collectors. There is substantial imagery of its stage usage by Prince, and documented and direct provenance from within his band.

 

The guitar is being brought to auction by Donna Grantis, guitarist and bandmate in Prince’s groups 3RDEYEGIRL and New Power Generation. The instrument comes directly from her private collection and hasn’t been played since Prince last performed with it.
