오션뮤직재단(Ocean Music Foundation)이 프레데릭 쇼팽(1810-1849. 10. 17)의 사망 175주기를 맞아 10월 3일부터 6일까지 브루클린하이츠의 세인트앤 더트리니티 교회(St. Ann & The Holy Trinity Church, 167 Montague St.)에서 쇼팽 페스티벌(Chopin Festival)을 연다.

 

페스티벌엔 지휘자로 전 미시간 주립대 이대욱 교수가 참가한다. 프로그램은 10개의 콘서트로 구성되어 있다. 콘서트는 무료이며 맘대로 지불하면 된다(pay-what-you-wish). 

 

이대욱 교수는 줄리아드 음악원과 동대학원 졸업 후 피바디 컨서바토리에서 피아노와 지휘 박사과정을 수료했다. 동아 음악 콩쿠르 1위, 부조니 국제 콩쿠르 4위를 수상했다. 미시간 주립대 교수(1984-2003)와 한양대 교수, 울산시향 상임지휘자를 지냈다.

 

피아니스트 문용희 피바디음대 교수와 사이에 장남 넬슨 리(이석준, 바이올린-주피터 스트링 쿼텟), 쌍둥이 딸 안드레아 리(이나연, 첼로), 알리시아 리(이나경, 클라리넷)도 클래시컬 뮤지션이다.  

 

세인트앤더트리니티 처치는 1848년 고딕리바이벌 양식으로 지어졌다. 미국에서 처음 스테인글래스 창문이 설치된 곳으로 홍성진씨가 지휘하는 원월드심포니가 정기적으로 콘서트를 열기도 했다. 

 

 

 

Chopin Festival Concert 

 

To commemorate the 175th anniversary of Chopin’s death, the Ocean Music Foundation is presenting the inaugural Ocean Music International Piano Competition devoted to Chopin’s works. The competition will be held in New York City, October 3-6, 2024. 

 

Featuring:

Concerto and Solo Categories, more choices for everyone.

Opportunity to perform a concerto movement with Ocean Music Festival Orchestra.

Opportunity to perform solo works alongside many acclaimed pianists.

Educational events led by some of the most prestigious piano pedagogues today.

 

Open to pianists of any nationality ages 35 and under for the Concerto Category, and open to pianists of any nationality and with NO age limit for the Solo Category.

 

This festival, designed as an immersive experience tracing Chopin's short yet rich life, will feature the complete works published during his lifetime performed in ten public concerts at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn, New York. Additionally, the festival will host the inaugural Ocean Music International Piano Competition and educational events, such as masterclasses and panel discussions, at OPERA America and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City. 

 

Celebrating Chopin's legacy like never before, the festival will showcase acclaimed pianists and renowned piano educators, including Jerome Lowenthal, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Yong Hi Moon, Melvin Chen, Yi-Yang Chen, Fei-Fei Dong, Albert Cano Smit, Jiayan Sun, and many others.
