뉴욕 퀸즈의 한인 부부(YZ와 AP)씨가 체외수정으로 백인 쌍둥이를 낳아 LA 차 난임치료센터(CHA Fertility Center)을 고소했다.
데일리 메일지에 따르면, 한인 부부는 지난해 1월 차 난임치료센터에 다니며 체외수정 후 올 3월 31일 제왕절개로 백인 남자 쌍둥이를 출산했다. 이들은 10만 달러의 비용으로 임신에 성공했지만, 남의 아이를 낳은 것. 임신 중 3, 5개월째 초음파 검사에선 여아 쌍둥이였으나, 남아 백인 쌍둥이를 낳은 것이다. 이 부부는 차 난임치료센터로부터 두 아이의 양육권을 생물학적 부모들에게 넘길 것을 강요받았다.
한편, LA의 아르메니아계 미국인 애니와 애숏 마누키얀 부부는 차 불임치료센터에서 체외수정을 했지만, 임신으로 성공하지는 못했다. 몇개월 후 이들은 센터에서 DNA 검사를 받은 후 3월 31일 뉴욕의 다른 여인이 출산한 남아의 생물학적 부모라는 통보를 받았다. 뉴욕의 한국계 여인이 출산한 남아가 이들의 자식이라는 것. 다른 남아는 또 다른 차 불임치료센터 환자의 난자로 알려졌다.
차 난임치료센터는 조슈아 버거(Joshua Berger)와 사이몬 홍(Simon Hong)이 운영하고 있다.
