Join a community of interns to gain professional skills and learn about museum practice. The Met has over forty department areas that host interns from a wide variety of academic backgrounds.

These internships are available to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates. Internships for high school students are also available.

Undergraduate and Graduate Internships are made possible by Adrienne Arsht.

Summer Internships for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

The Met offers paid and unpaid opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, to explore museum careers and gain professional experience during the summer.

The Met strongly encourages applications from students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to museums and the visual arts.

The Museum Seminar (MuSe) Internship Program

The Museum Seminar (MuSe) Internship Program awards ten-week, nine-month, or twelve-month internships to students interested in a career in the arts and fields related to The Met's many departments, at both The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters. In addition to developing skills through projects within Museum departments, interns participate in a weekly seminar series and interact directly with the Museum's visitors by leading public tours in the galleries.

Long term nine-month and twelve-month internships are also available. These long-term interns fully participate in the MuSe program during the summer.

The MuSe Internship Program begins on the first Monday in June. All interns must start on this date; there are no exceptions. When the summer MuSe program concludes, long-term interns remain and work with their supervisors for the remainder of their internship periods.

Fall- and Spring-Semester Internships for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Current students and recent graduates can learn about museum practice and gain professional skills in a variety of fields through internships at The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters during the academic year.

In addition to developing their skills through projects in various departments, our interns join a community of fellow interns and staff during their time at The Met. All interns participate in a weekly program introducing them to projects, activities, and staff across the Museum. This might include talks in the galleries, presentations by staff, lunches with individual staff members, or behind-the-scenes tours of Museum departments.

The Met strongly encourages applications from students and recent graduates who identify as members of groups that are underrepresented in the museum field and the arts.

Undergraduate and Graduate Internships are made possible by Adrienne Arsht.

The descriptions of the Undergraduate and Graduate Internship Program on this page reflect the

Museum's current plans as of August 2020. However, due to the unpredictable and continually evolving circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Museum may need to change, delay, shorten, and/or cancel the 2020 and/or 2021 programs. We will provide periodic updates regarding any major changes or developments.

Long-Term Internships for Recent Graduates

Full-time nine-month and twelve-month internships are awarded every year to recent graduates of degree-granting programs at the graduate and undergraduate level. Long-term interns begin on the first Monday in June and fully participate in the ten-week Museum Seminar (MuSe) Internship Program. At the conclusion of the summer session, they continue work with their supervisors for the remainder of their internship period and participate in weekly programming for the Fall- and Spring-Semester Internship Program. Please note that the start and end dates of these internships are fixed and not flexible.

The Met strongly encourages applications from students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to museums and the visual arts.
