세계 35세 이상 아마추어 피아니스트를 대상으로 열리는 2020 밴 클라이번 국제 아마추어 피아노 콩쿠르 출전자 48명이 발표됐다.
한국에선 홍유진(41, 정신과 의사, 강릉), 정연욱(53, 변호사, 서울), 이승엽(47, 수학교수, 플로리다), 김형순(43, 변호사, 캘리포니아)씨 등이 참가한다. 존 리(Jon Lee, 41, 소프트웨어 매니저, 샌프란시스코)씨는 한인 여부가 확인되지 않았다.
세계 19개국을 대표하는 출전자 48명은 38세에서 72세 사이다. 여기에 비경쟁 페스티벌 참가자 20명이 추가로 선정되어 총 23개국에서 68명이 경쟁하게 된다. 직업도 의사, 변호사, 교수, 기계 공학자, 희곡작가, 소프트웨어 엔지니어, 마케팅 디렉터, 회계사 등 다양하다.
제 8회 클라이번 국제 아마추어 피아노 콩쿠르는 2022년 10월 12일부터 18일까지 텍사스 크리스찬대학교와 텍사스 포스워스의 베이스 퍼포먼스 홀에서 열린다.
ANNOUNCING THE 2022 CLIBURN AMATEUR COMPETITORS
We are thrilled to announce 48 incredible pianists who have been invited to compete in Fort Worth, Texas, during the 2022 Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition, taking place October 12–18, 2022. The Preliminary & Semifinal Rounds will be held at PepsiCo Recital Hall at TCU followed by the grand finale at Bass Performance Hall with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Damon Gupton. This eighth edition of the Cliburn Amateur was previously scheduled for May 2020.
These multitalented musicians represent 19 countries and range in age from 38–72. An additional 20 pianists have been selected as non-competing festival participants, bringing the total number of pianists to 68 and countries represented to 23.
The Amateur Competition highlights the importance of music-making in everyday life, bringing together the world’s best non-professional pianists age 35 and older for seven days of performances, symposia, and social events. All rounds are open to the public, as are many of the festival events. We hope you’ll join us for this truly inspiring, international event, where everyday people become stars of the stage. Tickets will go on sale in Spring 2022.

New this year, the 20 pianists selected as non-competing festival participants will play up to 15 minutes for comments from jurors (these performances will be open to the public). All invited pianists will also have expanded festival opportunities, including a variety of public performances; practical seminars; four-hand and chamber readings; and a host of social events where they can form lasting relationships with people from around the world who share their same passion. A full schedule of festival events will be announced Summer 2022.
Inaugurated in 1999, the Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition (formerly known as the International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs™) was the first event of its kind in the United States. Hailed by The Boston Globe as “a celebration of music, and the people who have to make music, no matter what,” the contest highlights the importance of music-making in everyday life and provides a forum for musicians age 35 and older who do not perform, teach, or compose piano music for their primary professional pursuit or financial benefit. The quadrennial competition brings together the best amateur pianists from around the world for seven days of performances, symposia, and social events.
