The 20th Anniversary Season of the International Keyboard Institute & Festival is made possible by COFRA Foundation and Bregal Investments


HUNTER  COLLEGE  (CUNY),   NEW YORK CITY


Concerts, Lectures and Masterclasses are planned as part of the 2018 Twentieth Anniversary Season of the International Keyboard Institute & Festival, which will take place at Hunter College from July 15 – 29.  Fourteen concerts featuring Guest Artists and Faculty will take place at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College each evening at 8:00 pm.  The Prestige Series, featuring young artists, returns each weekday at 5pm with ten concerts in Lang Recital Hall.  Daily featured Masterclasses and weekend special events will also take place in Lang. In addition, IKIF will present pre-concert lectures and interviews from the stage of The Kaye Playhouse each night starting at 7:00pm.

This year the Guest Artist Faculty includes distinguished pianists Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Vladimir Feltsman, and Alon Goldstein with the Fine Arts Quartet, for selected masterclasses and recitals.  Founder/Director Jerome Rose will perform the opening concert.  Making Festival concert debuts are Cliburn Gold Medalist Yekwon Sunwoo and IKIF Competition winner Dina Ivanova. Hunter College Faculty members returning this year to IKIF are:  Geoffrey Burleson (Director of Piano Studies at Hunter College) for a solo recital, and Quynh Nguyen as a Faculty Artist.  Returning to give a recital and selected masterclasses are Claire Huangci, Jeffrey Swann, Steven Mayer, Massimiliano Ferrati, and Ilya Yakushev.


A free Lecture by Allen Evans:  “Debussy’s Traces:  Exploring His Influences” will be held mid-festival on Saturday afternoon in Lang Recital Hall.  After the lecture Yuan Sheng performs a Debussy recital.  A Schumann Lieder Recital follows with Nils Neubert, tenor and Yuri Kim, piano.


The IKIF Artists Recognition Scholarship Awards Competition is made possible by a donation from JMW Consultants Inc. The competition Finals will be held on the last Sunday of the Festival in Lang Recital Hall from 11am – 1pm and from 2 – 4pm.  The Semi Finals will be held on the last Saturday of the Festival at 11am.  Participants in the Festival can compete for scholarships totaling $25,000.  In addition to a $10,000 scholarship award, the First Prize winner of the competition will be offered a concert on the IKIF 2019 Masters Series, in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of IKIF.  In celebration of the 80th birthday of Founder/Director Jerome Rose, three additional prizes of $5,000 each will be awarded to Finalists as well as a concert on the IKIF 2019 Prestige Series.


Highlights of the two-week Festival include:


·        Opening Concert:  Founder/Director Jerome Rose performing Beethoven, Schumann and Liszt


·        Recitals in the Kaye at 8pm:  Claire Huangci, Yekwon Sunwoo, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Alon Goldstein and Fine Arts Quartet, Jeffrey Swann, Steven Mayer, Vladimir Feltsman, Massimiliano Ferrati, Geoffrey Burleson, Dina Ivanova, and Ilya Yakushev


World Premiere:  by Steven Mayer (7/21):  Gottschalk: Symphony No. 1 "La Nuit des Tropiques"  (transc. for solo piano by S. Mayer)

                        


·        Pre-Concert Program Notes, lectures and interviews, by guests and friends in the Kaye Playhouse at 7pm


·        Prestige Series concerts at 5pm in Lang Recital Hall:  Alyosha Jurinic, Ivan Gusev, Tomoki Sakata, Wei Luo, Baron Fenwick, Salome Jordania, Pablo Rossi, Drew Petersen, Vladimir Rumyantsev, and Reed Tetzloff.

Faculty Artists who will teach and perform include Yuri Kim, Emanuel Krasovsky, Nina Lelchuk, Quynh Nguyen, Michael Oelbaum, Dmitry Rachmanov, Victor Rosenbaum, Yuan Sheng, Mykola Suk, Anastasya Terenkova, Nina Tichman,  Matei Varga, and Eduard Zilberkant.


Since 1999 the Festival has attracted students from around the world who have the opportunity to attend the Festival and study with Faculty Artists, participate in masterclasses, and attend concerts and lectures given by some of the world’s best-known pianists and scholars.  Over 200 video clips of past Festival events are posted on YouTube, and IKIF has a Facebook page.  See:  www.ikif.org

Lang single tickets:  $10    ***   Lang Concert Pass:   $100   (includes 15 events 7/16-29).

Concert Passes are not valid for Masterclasses.  Special Discounts will be available for Hunter College students.
