About the Exhibition
Ouroboros is the 8th solo exhibition of artist Stephanie S. Lee. Lee reinterprets the traditional Korean Folk Art (Minhwa) by connecting it with a modern perspective. By portraying a luxurious, modern context in a traditional Korean setting, Lee depicts the everlasting human desire -the pursuit of happiness- that transcends appearence, time, and era.
In this exhibition, Lee focuses on Munjado, one of the genres in Minhwa that depicts Confucian virtues in the form of Chinese characters. Using both the Korean and English alphabet with Ouroboros, the symbol of reincarnation and wholeness, Lee's work shows her journey to finding hope and happiness while enduring repetitive everyday life as a middle-aged female artist and mother.
