존 페터만(John Fetterman, 53) 펜실베니아주 상원의원(민주당)이 임상 우울증 치료차 월터리드국립군사병원에 입원했다. 페터만 의원은 지난주 현기증세를 겪어왔으며, 만성 우울증이 최근 심각한 상태에 이른 것으로 알려졌다. 

올브라이트대, 커네티컷대 석사, 하버드대 정책학 석사 출신 페터만 의원은 브래독 시장(2006-19), 펜주 부지사(2019-23)을 거쳐 지난해 연방 상원의원으로 당선됐다. 청소년, 대학시절 풋볼 선수였으며, 부인은 브라질계 이민자로 불법체류자였다가 존 페터만과 결혼 후 인권운동가로 일하고 있다.

A spokesman for the first-term senator from Pennsylvania, who suffered a near-fatal stroke last year, said his depression had grown severe in recent weeks, as he has worked to adjust to life in the Senate.
