'Everything Everywhere All at Once' Sweeps Oscars 2023

'예스 마담' 양자경(미셸 여) 아시안 최초의 여우주연상 수상

작품상, 감독상, 각본상 등 7개 부문을 석권한 '에브리싱 에브리웨어 올엣원스'의 다니엘스 감독.

동전 세탁소를 운영하는 중국인 이민자 여인이 국세청 감사에 시달리며 차원을 넘나드는 환상을 담은 다이넬 관과 다니엘 샤이너트 감독의 SF, 코믹, 액션 영화 '에브리싱 에브리웨어 올엣원스 (Everything Everywhere All at Once)'가 제 95회 아카데미상 작품, 각본, 감독, 여우주연, 여우조연, 남우조연, 편집상 등 7개 부문을 석권했다. 아시아계 영화가 아카데미상을 석권한 것은 2020년 봉준호 감독이 '기생충'으로 할리우드에 문을 열어주었기 때문일 것이다. 

흥미롭게도 '에브리싱...'은 뉴욕타임스의 비평가 A. O. 스캇(A. O. Scott)과 마놀라 다지스(Manola Dargis)의 2022sus xhq 10 영화에 들지 못했다. 

2023 남녀주조연상은 컴백 스타들의 영광이었다.

'예스마담' '와호장룡'의 액션 스타 양자경(미셸 여, Michelle Yeoh)는 아시안 최초로 오스카 여우주연상 트로피를 품에 안았다. 2002년 '몬스터 볼'의 할리 베리가 수상한 이후 최초의 유색인종 여우주연상 수상자가 됐다. 말레이시아 출신 양자경은 "오늘 밤 저처럼 생기는 어린 소년 소녀들에게 이것은 희망과 가능성의 등대입니다. 숙녀 여러분, 아무도 당신이 전성기가 지났다고 말하지 못하게 하세요!"라고 수상 소감을 밝혔다. 양자경은 올해 60세다. 

다렌 아로노프스키 감독의 '고래(Whale)'에서 병적인 비만남성으로 출연한 브랜단 프레이저는 한때 '정글의 조지' '미이라' 등 상업영화에서 흥행 스타로 인기를 누리다가 10여년간 스포트라이트에서 멀러졌다가 컴백해 오스카 수상의 영광을 안았다. 

브랜단 프레이저와 '엔시노 맨'에서 공연했던 키 후이콴은 해리슨 포드와 공연한 '인디애나 존스', '구니스'로 친숙한 아역배우 출신이었다. 하지만, 성인이 되어 수십년간 연기 기회를 잡지못해 좌절했다가 '에브리싱...'에서 양자경의 남편으로 화려하게 컴백했다. 베트남 출신 키 후이콴은 "제게 일어나고 있는 것을 믿을 수 없습니다. 이것이 바로 아메리칸 드림입니다"라고 밝혔다. 

한편, '에브리싱'에서 국세청 조사관으로 분한 제이미 리 커티스는 할리우드 전설 자넷 리(사이코)와 토니 커티스(뜨거운 것이 좋아)의 딸이지만, '블루 스틸' '할로윈' 등 상업영화에 출연하며 아카데미상과 거리가 멀었다. 그런데, '에브리싱'으로 65세에 영광의 오스카를 처음 품에 안았다. 그녀의 남편은 배우/감독 크리스토퍼 게스트.   

오스카 연기상을 한번도 받지 못한 해리슨 포드가 아카데미상 작품상을 발표했다.
