뉴욕 최대의 미술쇼 아모리 쇼의 포커스(Focus) 섹션은 이전까지 아프리카(Africa, 2016), 북구(Nordic Countries, 2012), 남미(Latin America, 2011), 베를린(Berlin, 2010) 등 지역 중심이었다.
2019 아모리쇼(3/6-10)의 포커스는 아칸소주 벤튼빌의 크리스탈브리지 미국현대미술관(Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas)의 큐레이터 로렌 헤인스(Lauren Haynes)가 기획했다. 로렌 헤인스는 1인 혹은 2인 작가에 중점을 두어 정체성 탐구하는 미술을 테마로 정했다.
맨해튼 할렘 스튜디오뮤지엄(Studio Museum in Harlem)의 어쏘시에이트 큐레이터를 거쳤던 헤인스는 지난해 크리스탈브리지미술관에서 '국가의 영혼: 블랙파워 시대의 미술(Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power)'을 타이틀로 흑인 작가들을 대거 소개하는 특별전(2/3-4/23, 2018)을 열었다. 이 전시는 런던 테이트 모던(7/12-10/22, 2017), 브루클린뮤지엄(9/14-2/3, 2019)으로 순회됐다.
따라서 로렌 헤인스의 컬러가 침윤된 포커스다. 2019 아모리 쇼의 포커스 섹션엔 미국을 비롯, 캐나다, 멕시코, 브라질, 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 벨기에, 이탈리아, 노르웨이, 남아프리카공화국, 두바이 등지에서 29개 갤러리가 참가하고 있으며, 대다수가 흑인 작가들을 집중 소개하고 있다.
Lauren Haynes
로렌 헤인스 큐레이터는 오벌린대에서 미술사를 전공했다. 뉴욕의 할렘스튜디오뮤지엄에서 10여년간 어쏘시에이트 큐레이터로 일한 후 2016년 크리스탈브리지미국현대미술관 큐레이터로 발탁됐다. 그리고, 2018년 흑인작가 특별전 'Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power'를 기획했다. 아프로-아메리칸 근대, 현대미술 전문가로 흑인 작가 알마 토마스, 비어댄 프로젝트, 사람에 대해 말하기: 에보니, 스탠리 휘트니: 오렌지로 춤추기 등에 관한 글을 썼으며, 휘트니뮤지엄, 텍사스대 등지에서 강의했다. 2016년 골드러시상을 수상했다.

아모리쇼는 원래 1913년 유럽의 근대 미술을 뉴욕에 소개한 전설적인 미술박람회에서 시작됐다. 렉싱턴애브뉴 25스트릿의 69연대 병기창고(69th Regiment Armory)에서 열면서 이름이 아모리쇼로 붙여졌다. 1994년 매튜 마크스 등 뉴욕 아트딜러들이 그래머시호텔 안에서 ‘그래머시파크 국제 미술박람회’라는 이름으로 불렀다가 뉴욕 최대로 규모가 커지면서 1999년 '아모리쇼'로 이름을 아예 바꾸고, 장소를 허드슨강 피어로 이동했다. 피어 92, 94의 20만 스퀘어피트 공간에서 펼쳐지는 아모리쇼엔 세계에서 연간 6만5천여명이 몰려든다. https://www.thearmoryshow.com
