플라시도 도밍고 메트오페라 '맥베스' 복귀 전격 취소

테너 비토리오 그리골로 영국 로열오페라 출연 정지

#MeToo로 20여명의 여성들의 피해자가 드러난 오페라계의 수퍼스타 플라시도 도밍고가 24일 메트로폴리탄 오페라 2019-20 시즌 '맥베스' 출연을 전격 철회했다. 또한, 도밍고는 앞으로도 메트오페라에 복귀하지 않을 예정이다. 이는 23일 '포기와 베스'로 시즌을 개막한 다음날, 25일 '맥베스' 출연 직전 날의 결정이다. 이에 따라 도밍고가 출연할 '맥베스'는 바리톤 제리코 루치치가 맡아 모든 공연의 무대에 오른다.

피터 겔브 메트오페라 단장은 지난 21일 '맥베스' 드레스 리허설 후 오케스트라, 코러스 단원들과 미팅을 거쳤다. 필라델피아오케스트라와 샌프란시스코 오페라는 AP 통신의 #미투 9인 폭로 후 전격 공연을 취소한 바 있다.

한편, 영국의 로열오페라는 이탈리아 출신 테너 비토리오 그리골로(Vittorio Grigolo)가 일본 투어에서 생긴 사건으로 인해 출연을 정지했다. 메트오페라의 피터 겔브 관장은 로열오페라의 사건 조사로 결백이 드러나지 않는 한 그리골로가 출연할 예정이었던 '라 트라비아타' 출연을 환영하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔다. 이로써 스타 소프라노 안나 네트레브코와 플라시도 도밍고와의 공연은 불발탄이 됐다.

“I made my debut at the Metropolitan Opera at the age of 27 and have sung at this magnificent theater for 51 consecutive, glorious years, While I strongly dispute recent allegations made about me, and I am concerned about a climate in which people are condemned without due process, upon reflection I believe that my appearance in this production of ‘Macbeth’ would distract from the hard work of my colleagues both onstage and behind the scenes. As a result, I have asked to withdraw and I thank the leadership of the Met for graciously granting my request. I am happy that, at the age of 78, I was able to sing the wonderful title role in the dress rehearsal of ‘Macbeth,’ which I consider my last performance on the Met stage...I am grateful to God and the public for what they have allowed me to accomplish here at the Metropolitan Opera.”
