Violinist Jennifer Koh Wins The Best Classical Instrumental Solo Award/ "Alone Together"  

K-팝 수퍼스타 방탄소년단(BTS), 코리안아메리칸 미셸 자우너(Michell Zauner), 그리고 바이올리니스트 제니퍼 고(Jennifer Koh)가 후보에 오른 제 64회 그래미상(Grammy Awards) 시상식이 4월 3일 라스베가스 MGM 그랜드가든 아레나에서 열렸다. 

제니퍼 고는 "Alone Together(나 홀로 함께)"로 최우수 클래식기악솔로(Best Classical Instrumental Solo)상을 수상했다. "Alone Together"는 코로나 팬데믹 중 저명한 작곡가와 재능있는 젊은 작곡가들로부터 짧은 신작을 기증받아 제니퍼 고의 연주를 디지털로 제작한 음반이다. 참가 작곡가로는 Du Yun, Vijay Iyer, Tania Léon, George Lewis, Missy Mazzoli, Ellen Reid, Wang Lu, Katherine Balch, Nina Shekhar, Lester St. Louis, Rajna Swaminathan, Darian Donovan Thomas, Sugar Vendil 등이다.

3년 연속 베스트 팝듀오/그룹 퍼포먼스 후보에 올랐던 BTS는 히트곡 "버터(Butter)"를 공연했지만, 수상에는 실패했다. 사회자인 코미디언 트레버 노아(Trevor Noah)는 BTS 멤버들에 둘러싸여 RM이 미국 시트콤 '프렌즈(Friends)'를 보며 영어를 배운 경험을 빗대어 자신도 드라마로 한국어를 배웠다면서 "무궁화꽃이 피었습니다"를 말해 웃음을 자아냈다.

한편, 회고록 'H마트에서 울다'의 베스트셀러 작가로 시나리오를 집필 중인 미셸 자우너는 노란색 러플 원피스 차림으로 남편인 기타리스트 피터 브래들리와 레드카펫을 밟았다. 자우너는 4인조 록그룹 '재패니즈 브렉퍼스트(Japanese Breakfast)'의 기타리스트이자 보컬리스트로 신인 아티스트와 알터너티브 뮤직앨범 후보에 올랐지만 수상으로 이어지지는 못했다.

'올해의 레코드(Record of the Year)'와 '올해의 노래(Song of the Year)'는 브루노 마스와 앤더슨.팩이 결성한 R&B 듀오 실크소닉(Silk Sonic)의 "Leave the Door Open"이 차지했다. 실크소닉은 베스트 R&B 퍼포먼스, R&B 송까지 휩쓸었다. 한편, 줄리아드 음대 출신으로 '스티븐 콜베르와의 레이트 쇼'(CBS-TV) 밴드 리더인 존 바티스트(Jon Batiste)는 "We Are"와 "Cry"로 올 최다인 11개 부문 후보에 올라 '올해의 앨범(Album of the Year)를 비롯 베스트 뮤직비디오 등 5개 부문상을 석권했다.  

재패니즈 브렉퍼스트의 미셸 자우너가 노미네이트됐던 신인 아티스트는 올리비아 로드리고(Olivia Rodrigo)에 돌아갔으며, 로드리고는  "Sour"로 팝보컬 앨범, "Drivers Licence"로 팝 솔로 퍼포먼스까지 휩쓸었다. 팝 듀오/그룹 퍼포먼스상은 "Kiss Me More"의 도자 캣과 SZA가 BTS를 누르고 그래미 트로피를 가져갔다.

베스트 역사 앨범(Best Historical Album)은 "Both Sides Now"의 전설 조니 미첼(Joni Mitchell, 78)이 1985년에 출반한 '아카이브 Vol.1: The Early Years(1963-1967)'이 수상했다. 모겔론병과 투병중인 조니 미첼은 그래미상 시상식에 참석했다. 트래디셔널 팝보컬 앨범은 토니 베넷(Tony Bennett, 95)과 레이디 가가의 듀엣 앨범 "Love for Sale"이 수상했다. 

최우수 음악영화상은 아밀 "퀘스트러브" 톰슨 감독의 "섬머 오브 소울(Summer of Soul)"이 거머쥐었다. 이 다큐는 1969년 우드스탁 페스티벌에 대응해서 할렘에서 흑인 뮤지션들이 열었던 음악제를 담았다. "섬머 오브 소울"은 올 아카데미상 최우수 다큐멘터리상을 수상했다. 윌 스미스로부터 뺨을 맞은 크리스 록이 시상자로 나왔다.

그래미상에선 우크라이나 볼로디미르 젤렌스키(Volodymyr Zelenskyy) 대통령이 비디오로 지지를 호소했으며, 존 레전드(John Legend)가 우크라이나 출신 밴두라(bandura) 연주자 수잔나 이글리단(Siuzanna Iglidan), 가수 미카 뉴튼(Mika Newton)과 함께 우크라이나에 헌사하는 "Free"를 공연했다.
