2017 New York Sanjo Festival & Symposium

In Part of the 22nd Annual Concert of the New York Korean Performing Arts Center Part I on 10/27/17 & Part II on 10/28/17 (President & Artistic Director, Sue Yeon Park)

NUEVO SANJO
This rare festival presents Korean sanjo (instrumental solo genre) and pansori (epic sung drama) featuring some of the most celebrated masters and artists from South Korea, including Lee Tae-Baek (ajaeng), Yun Jin-Chul (pansori), Yi Ji-Young (gayageum), You Kyung-Hwa (janggu), Kwak Soo-Eun (25-string gayageum) and Lee Young-Sub (daegeum).
The concert highlights the contemporary developments of these two significant genres showing the beauty and aesthetic of Korean antiquity linked with modern sensibilities. Sue Yeon Park, Korean dance master and a 2008 National Heritage Fellow, joins in performing the utmost spiritual shaman ritual music, Sinawi.
The symposium offers the unique opportunity to learn how each musician explores the connections between the past with the present, along with new compositions by Kim Sngkn, Ju-Yong Ha & Jeeyoung Kim.
