Huma Bhabha Named Artist for The Met's 2018 Cantor Roof Garden Commission
파키스탄 출신 조각가 후마 바브하(Huma Babha, 55)가 2018 메트로폴리탄뮤지엄 루프가든 작가로 선정됐다. 후마 바브하는 로드아일랜드디자인스쿨과 컬럼비아대학교에서 수학했으며, 뉴욕주 포킵시에 살며 작업하고 있다.

Pakistani artist Huma Bhabha has been selected to create a site-specific installation for The Met's Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The Roof Garden Commission: Huma Bhabha, We Come in Peace will be on view from April 17 through October 28, 2018. The exhibition is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Additional support is provided by Cynthia Hazen Polsky and Leon B. Polsky. The Roof Garden Commission: Huma Bhabha, We Come in Peace was conceived by the artist in consultation with Sheena Wagstaff, Leonard A. Lauder Chairman of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Shanay Jhaveri, Assistant Curator of South Asian Art, both of The Met's Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. It is the sixth in a series of site-specific commissions for the outdoor space. |
About the Artist Born in 1962 in Karachi, Pakistan, Huma Bhabha lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York. Her work addresses themes of colonialism, war, displacement, and memories of place. Using found materials and the detritus of everyday life, she creates haunting human figures that hover between abstraction and figuration, monumentality and entropy. |
