The Brooklyn-based Brazilian choro band Regional de NY dedicates themselves to keeping the choro tradition alive, a music that is virtuosic, full of joy, and deeply grooving. Miller audiences first experienced the band with Anat Cohen in 2015, and they returned to the stage in last year's Pop-Up Series. Back by popular demand, this year they open the series with an energetic program sure to delight.

Isabel Lepanto Gleicher
 

Flutist Isabel Lepanto Gleicher is a rising talent and standout performer in the new music scene. A core member of new music sinfonietta Ensemble Échappé, founding member of SoundMind, and teaching artist with the New York Philharmonic, she is equally at home performing new music and more traditional repertoire, and will be performing with ICE for Proving Up at Miller Theatre in September. For her solo debut at Miller, she has curated a program of flute works—some of which hover at the border of inaudibility—that are perfect for the intimate setting of a Pop-Up concert.

 

Yarn/Wire, the Queens-based quartet of two pianists and two percussionists, is admired for their energy, precision, and “mesmerizing” performances (The New York Times). They return to the Miller stage to perform holiday favorites with a twist, including a musical preview of Carnival of the Animals, Miller's annual holiday offering that features Yarn/Wire plus New York's most skillful puppeteers on December 15.
