Recital Opens the 41st Season of The McGraw Family Young Artists Showcase

NEW YORK –– Huan Li and Zhu Wang, winners of the 2018 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition, will give a joint recital on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 7:30pm in Paul Hall, which will be broadcast at a later date on WQXR 105.9 FM. The recital opens the 41st season of The McGraw Family Young Artists Showcase with host Robert Sherman. The WQXR radio show is supported by The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Family Foundation. During the recital, the recipient of the Robert Sherman Award for Music Education and Community Outreach will be announced.
Pianist Huan Li will perform two pieces from Ravel’s Miroirs: “Une barque sur l’océan” and “Alborada del gracioso,” and pianist Zhu Wang will perform Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 3, Op. 58, movements 3 and 4 (Largo and Presto, non tanto).

About Huan Li
Huan Li is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree with Hung-Kuan Chen at Juilliard. She was born in Guangdong, China in 1997 and began studying the piano at the age of 5. In 2008, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music’s pre-college division, where she worked with Wu Yuan. In 2012, she moved to the U.S. to attend Juilliard’s Pre-College Division, and she has studied with Yonghi Moon, Choong Mo Kang, and Hung-Kuan Chen. As a solo pianist, Ms. Li has performed at the Hungarian Embassy in China, the Forbidden City Concert Hall, and the National Grand Theater. She was a substitute soloist for Andreas Haefliger in the Aspen Music Festival and School. She has also played with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Salzburg Chamber Soloists, and Juilliard Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Li has participated in a number of competitions in which she won top prizes, including the first Zhuhai International Mozart Competition, the PianoArts North American Piano Competition, the Roslyn Tureck Bach International Competition, and the Kosciuszko Foundation’s 65th Chopin Piano Competition.
About Zhu Wang
Pianist Zhu Wang won first prize at the second Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians and at the Hilton Head Young Artist Piano Competition; he is also the recipient of Juilliard Gina Bachauer Scholarship, the Cecelia Felman Piano Scholarship, and the Cecil Yarbrough Scholarship. Mr. Wang has been a featured soloist on New York WQXR’s Young Artist Showcase and Chicago WFMT’s Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series. Highlights of his 2017-18 season included recitals in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Houston, and Santa Barbara as the winner of the Music Academy of the West’s solo piano competition. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Hilton Head Symphony, and Salzburg Chamber Soloists, among others. Mr. Wang has worked with many distinguished pianists, including Gary Graffman, Fou T’song, Stephen Hough, and Murray Perahia. He is currently pursuing his BM degree at Juilliard with Robert McDonald.
