Graphic Designer
JOB OVERVIEW
The Graphic Designer helps the Creative Director meet the design needs of all departments at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The Graphic Designer can work independently on projects that range from the simplest signage to the most detailed poster or brochure, from concept through production. She/he is able to create designs that are consistent with our branding and the overall look of our materials while also bringing their own ideas and creativity.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 4–7 years of experience doing hands-on graphic design on a variety of projects (such as brochures, posters, ads), from concept through production
- Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, In Copy, and Photoshop. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, and After Effects is a plus.
- Create designs that are consistent with the Film Society brand and aesthetic
- Strong skills in layout, typography, and image selection
- Work quickly and efficiently on multiple projects at once
- Attention to detail is a must
- Keep track of multiple deadlines
- Work closely with colleagues in multiple departments and understand their varying needs and requirements
- Communicate with outside vendors in order to most efficiently execute assignments
- Able to design for both print and digital, and visualize how graphic elements can translate from one to the other
- Employ strategic design thinking and proactively solve design problems
- A passion for film is a plus!

Film Comment Digital Editor
A member of the Film Comment team, the Digital Editor works closely with the Editor-in-Chief and is responsible for editorial content and management of all FC digital platforms under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Guide and oversee production for online and other digital platforms
Line edit and top edit copy for digital and other platforms
Edit and write original insightful copy for the website and app
Generate ideas for original coverage for web, print, and other platforms
Assign recurring features for all platforms as necessary
Assist in tracking assignment schedule and copy flow
Curate and creatively deploy from the magazine’s 50-year archives
Participate in editorial meetings and brainstorming and coordinate with print coverage
Publish all digital editorial on magazine’s CMS and app
Refresh and populate homepage and provide art and incidental copy
Assist in managing interns on research and other projects
Fact-checking on web and print copy
Adhere to house style and highest editorial and journalistic standards
Interface with marketing and other departments at the Film Society
Review audio and video assets for quality control
Contribute to short term and long term strategy for FC digital platforms
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree
Significant experience as an editor and writer, thorough knowledge of film history and contemporary cinema, a nuanced critical perspective and journalistic acumen
Proven ability to work independently under deadline, take initiative, anticipate challenges, solve problems, and work under pressure
Ability to conceive consistently original ideas
Proficient in WordPress and other content management systems and familiar with emerging technologies
Passion and an understanding of Film Comment and the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s mission
Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to be effective in a dynamic environment

Receptionist
The Film Society is seeking a receptionist. This motivated self-starter is fluent with spreadsheets and standard email/calendar systems (such as those provided by Google apps).
Time Commitment:Ideally two days a week with the option of increasing to three depending on schedule.
As a receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for the company and you will provide administrative support across the organization. You will handle the flow of people through the business and ensure that all administration tasks are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
– Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately
– Answer, screen and forward any incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed
– Receive and sort daily mail/deliveries/couriers
– Maintain security by following procedures and controlling access (monitor logbook, issue visitor badges)
– Update appointment calendars and schedule meetings/appointments
– Perform other clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, collating, faxing etc.
Requirements:
– Proven working experience in similar roles
– Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
– Professional appearance
– Solid communication skills both written and verbal
– Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise
– Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
– Must be able to take direction well and work independently as needed.
