MoMA

Dear Friend,

I have exciting news. We’ll open the new MoMA on October 21, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Our expanded galleries will reveal a new presentation of modern and contemporary art that brings together mediums across the collection—from painting to performance—and highlights work by a greater range of artists than ever before.

These are just some of our opening exhibitions, and we will share many more over the coming months:

  • Sur moderno: Journeys of Abstraction—The Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Gift will celebrate modern Latin American art.

  • member: Pope.L, 1978–2001 will explore career-defining performances by multidisciplinary artist Pope.L.

  • Betye Saar: The Legends of Black Girl’s Window will reveal the themes of family, history, mysticism, and life cycles at the heart of Saar’s work.

  • As part of an exciting multi-year partnership, Thelma Golden, director and chief curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, will curate an installation featuring artist Michael Armitage.

  • A sound installation by David Tudor and Composers Inside Electronics will inaugurate a state-of-the-art studio that will bring live and experimental programming to the heart of our collection galleries.

In preparation for our opening, there will be an installation period during which the Museum will close to the public. Our last day of public admission will be June 15, with a special day for members on June 16. Until then, we have an extraordinary spring program, from The Value of Good Design to Joan Miró: Birth of the World.

When we’re finished, we hope MoMA will be an even more inviting and inspiring place. As always, ask us questions at expansion@moma.org, and you can also learn more about the project on our website. I look forward to staying in touch as our plans unfold.

With best wishes,

Glenn Lowry
