Film Forum announces the spring 2019 line-up for FILM FORUM JR., the popular series of classics for kids and their families. The program begins Saturday, March 30 and runs each Saturday and Sunday at 11 am through June 30. All tickets are $9 (children and adults).
The new Film Forum JR. season opens with Walt Disney’s timeless coming-of-age tale BAMBI (March 30/31), voted #3 on the AFI’s list of “Top 10 Animated Movies.”
April opens with BABE (April 6/7), the story of a pig who yearns to work as a farm’s sheepdog. Next up, Charlie Chaplin explores the ups, downs and inner-workings of the industrial age in MODERN TIMES (April 13/14).
April continues with the mystery spoof CLUE (April 20/21), based on the popular board game, including 3 alternate endings. Director Jonathan Lynn will be in person on Saturday, April 20; Satyajit Ray’s incomparably moving PATHER PANCHALI (one morning only on Saturday, April 27), the first of his “Apu Trilogy.”
May: KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (May 4/5), Ishirō Honda’s action-packed battle between the cinema’s two greatest monster super-stars; BUGS, DAFFY AND FRIENDS (May 11/12), a collection of shorts featuring your favorite Warner Bros. characters, including Porky Pig, Wile E. Coyote & Road Runner, Tweety & Sylvester; Tim Burton’s EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (May 18/19), starring Johnny Depp; and Penny Marshall’s A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (May 25/26), starring Geena Davis and Tom Hanks, based on the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during WWII.
June begins with the silent comedy classic SAFETY LAST! (June 1/2), with Harold Lloyd iconically hanging from a skyscraper’s clock, featuring live piano accompaniment by Steve Sterner; followed by a new 4K restoration of William Wyler’s FUNNY GIRL (June 8/9), starring Barbra Streisand; then CROOKLYN (June 15/16), from the Academy Award-winning Spike Lee; and BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM(June 22/23), a British romantic soccer comedy starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley. The Film Forum JR. season ends with John Huston’s glorious ANNIE (June 29/30), based on the Broadway musical of the same name by Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin, and Thomas Meehan, inspired by the comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Albert Finney, Carol Burnett, and Bernadette Peters star.
