뉴욕총영사관: 코로나19 인종차별 신고하세요

코리 존슨(Corey Johnson) 뉴욕시 의장은 3.5(목) 드블라지오 뉴욕시장의 기자회견 과정에서 다음과 같이 코로나 19 확산에 따른 아시아계 또는 유대계를 겨냥한 인종차별 내지 혐오감 조장을 강력히 규탄하고, 이를 결코 용납하지 않을 것임을 천명한바 있습니다.

“We have been seeing anti-asian bias incidents happen throughout the city. We have been seeing antisemitism directed at Orthodox New Yorkers. It is unacceptable. It is not based on science or by fact. We will not tolerate it here in New York City. We will be guided by public health professionals, by the mayor and his team, by the governor and their teams. That is what we will do. We will not put up with people  discriminating against New Yorkers based off of prejudicial, incorrect information. And it is important that we continue to say that over and over again. We are better than that. We are the greatest city in the world. And it is time for us to show it, in the midst of this crisis we are going through. 99% of New Yorkers have been showing that. But for the 1 % of New Yorkers that are behaving this way, stop it! It’s unacceptable. We won’t put up with it. It is not the way to get through this crisis.”

한인 여성 코로나 '인종혐오' 폭행 사건

10일 오전 9시 30분경 맨해튼 한인타운 인근 엠파이어스테이트 빌딩 건물 인근 도보에서 한 여성이 한국인 여성(23)을 폭행하는 사건이 발생해 경찰이 인종혐오 범죄로 보고 조사 중이다.

가해 여성은 아시아계 여성애개 "코로나 마스크는 어딨어, 이 아시안 *년"이라고 소리지르며 때린 것으로 알려졌다. 피해자는 턱 탈골 위험으로 인근 벨레뷰 병원에 호송됐다.

코로나19로 뉴욕내 반아시아 정서 확산 위험 

하원의원 유린 니우 차이나타운 기자회견서 외국인 혐오증 히스테리가 부상하고 있다고 밝혔다. 마가렛 친 시위원은 "바이러스는 색맹이다. 특정 그룹에 대한 차별은 정당화될 수 없다"고 말했다.
