코로나19 확산으로 중국계를 비롯, 한국, 베트남, 필리핀, 미얀마 등 아시안아메리칸들이 인종혐오 공격에 시달리고 있다고 뉴욕타임스가 보도했다.

미국인들이 아시안에게 침을 뱉거나, 소리지르거나, 폭력을 행사하는 인종혐오 행위가 급증했다. 도날드 트럼프가 코로나바이러스(COVID-19)를 차이니즈 바이러스(Chinese Virus)'라고 부르면서 인종혐오를 더욱 부추겼다. 이와 함께 중국계 이민자들의 총기 구입도 급증한 것으로 나타났다.
