미네아폴리스 킬러 경찰, 라오스 난민 출신 부인 이혼 소송 제기

데릭 쇼빈이 기소되면서 그의 부인 켈리 쇼빈(Kellie Chauvin)이 이혼 소송을 제기했다. 켈리 쇼빈은 1974년 라오스에서 태어나 세살 때 태국을 거쳐서 미국으로 이주했다. 17세 때 결혼해 두 자녀를 두었으며, 10년 후 이혼했다. 방사선 학위를 받은 후 미네아폴리스 메디컬센터에서 일해오다가 병원에서 데릭 쇼빈을 만나 결혼한 지 10년째다. 2018년엔 미네소타주 미시즈 미네소타 아메리카 대회에 출전했다.
문제의 비디오에서 수수방관하고 있던 아시아계 경관이 켈리 쇼빈의 형제로 알려졌다. 네티즌들은 이혼의 이유로 신변 안전과 소송으로 인한 재산 보호 차원이라고 추측하고 있다.

흑인 조지 플로이드(George Floyed)를 체포 과정에서 목졸라 살해한 혐의로 파면된 미네소타 경찰 데릭 쇼빈(Derek Chauvin)의 전력이 주목을 끌고 있다. 19년 경찰 생활 중 3건의 경찰 총격에 연루됐으며, 10건의 고발을 당한 것으로 드러났다. 또한, 킬러 경관과 희생자는 한때 나이트 클럽에서 경비로 함께 일했던 것으로 드러났다.
그리고, 2008년 데릭 쇼빈이 자신을 죽이려했다는 흑인 피해자가 나왔다. 이라 라트렐 톨레스(Ira Latrell Toles, 33)씨는 12년 전 가정 폭력 전화를 받고 출동했던 데릭 쇼빈이 목욕탕에서 자신을 구타하며, 배에 총구를 겨누었다고 밝혔다.
한편, 미네소타 주민들은 킬러 데릭 쇼번에게 형사 책임을 지워야 한다며 시위를 벌였다. 뉴욕의 유니온스퀘어에서도 시위가 벌어졌다. 맨해튼 시위에선 전경과 무력 충돌이 발생했으며, 33명이 체포됐다.
