#BlackLivesMatter 시위가 글로벌화하면서 예일대학교도 위태롭다. 1701년 목사들이 코네티컷주 세이브룩에 세운 후 1718년 뉴헤이븐으로 옮기면서 기부금을 쾌척한 엘리후 예일(Elihu Yale, 1649-1721)의 이름을 땄다. 그런데, 엘리후 예일은 노예를 소유했을뿐만 아니라 노예 무역업자인 것. 예일대는 2017년 노예옹호자 이름을 딴  존 C. 칼훈(John C. Calhoun) 칼리지의 명칭을 그레이스 머레이 호퍼 칼리지로 바꾼 바 있다.
