2020 노벨 평화상에 세계식량계획(WFP)

유엔 세계식량계획(WFP)이 2020 노벨 평화상 수상자로 선정됐다. 노르웨이 노벨위원회는 "세계식량계획은 팬데믹에 직면해서 인상적인 능력으로 그 노력을 강화했다. 폭력적 갈등과 유행병의 조합으로 기아에 처한 수많은 사람들의 수가 급격히 증가했다"고 밝혔다. WFP는 기아에 처한 인구를 2억6천500만명으로 추산하고 있다.
단체가 노벨평화상을 수상한 것은 국제적십자위원회(ICRC)와 유엔난민기구(UNHCR) 등 총 28회 차례이다.
The World Food Program was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to fight hunger globally, including its work during the pandemic.
The organization was recognized for its work during a pandemic that has “contributed to a strong upsurge in the number of victims of hunger in the world,” the committee said in a statement.
