옥시콘틴 파동 퍼듀파마 83억 달러 보상 합의

중독성 진통제 옥시콘틴 제조로 1999년 이래 45만여명의 미국인들을 사망케한 제약회사 퍼듀 파마(Purdue Pharma)가 법무부와 83억 달러의 벌금에 합의했다.
퍼듀 파마 소유주인 새클러 가문은 민사소송의 벌금으로 2억2천500만 달러를 지불해야 한다. 이 벌금에 형사 소송은 포함되지 않았다.
메트로폴리탄뮤지엄과 구겐하임뮤지엄을 비롯 미 메이저 뮤지엄에 기부금을 쾌척하며 이미지를 세탁해온 새클러 가문은 수많은 소송에 직면해 108억 달러의 재산을 빼돌린 것으로 알려졌다.
