메릴랜드주 볼티모어뮤지엄이 최근 뉴욕 소더비 경매에 앤디 워홀, 클리포드 스틸, 브라이스 마덴의 작품을 내놓자 뮤지엄 이사진 2인(Charles Newhall & Stiles Colwill)이 탈퇴를 선언하며, 기약했던 5천만 달러 기부금을 철회했다.
볼티모어뮤지엄의 크리스토퍼 베드포드 관장은 경매로 예상되는 수익금 6천500만 달러를 소장품의 다양성 기금으로 사용할 예정이라고 밝혔었다.
