도날드 트럼프가 지난해 3월 16일 'Chinese virus'라 트위터에 올린 후 미국내 아시안 혐오를 부추켰다는 조사가 나왔다. 샌프란시스코의 캘리포니아대 연구원들이 그해 3월 9일부터 23일까지의 해시태그 "#covid19" 와"#chinesevirus" 70만개를 분석한 결과 #chinesevirus 사용자의 절반, "covid19" 사용자의 20%가 반 아시안 감정을 보였다.
