지난 19일 캘리포니아 실비치에서 남편 병 조(Byong Cho, 83)씨의 장례식을 치르는 날 부인은 인종혐오 편지를 받았다. 흔들리는 필체로 "병이 갔으니, 레저월드(요양원)에서 아시안 1명이 줄었네. 조심해! 짐 싸서 네가 속한 나라로 돌아가(Now that Byong is gone, it’s one less Asian we have to put up with in Leisure World… Watch out! Pack your bags and go back to your country where you belong.)"라는 내용이었다. 

경찰은 이 사건을 중오범죄로 보고 수사를 벌이고 있다.
