윤여정씨가 4일 미 영화배우들이 선정하는 2021 SAGA(Screen Actors Guild Award) 여우조연상을 수상했다.  리 아이삭 정 감독의 '미나리(Minari)'에서 순자 할머니 역을 맡은 윤여정씨는 마리아 바칼로바(보랏2), 글렌 클로즈(힐빌리의 노래), 올리비아 콜먼(더 파더), 헬레나 젱겔(뉴스 오브 더 월드)을 제치고 여우조연상을 수상했다. <Update>

링컨센터 필름소사이어티(Lincoln Center Film Society)가 4월 9일부터 18일까지 배우 윤여정(Youn Yuh-jung, 73)씨의 온라인 회고전을 연다. 이번 회고전은 리 아이삭 정(Lee Issac Chung) 감독의 '미나리(Minari)'에 출연해 윤여정씨가 스티븐 연(Steven Yeun)과 함께 한국 배우 최초로 2021 아카데미상 조연여우상 후보에 오른 것을 기해 열리는 것이다. 2010년 이후 출연한 대표작 중 5편이라 규모는 미니급이다.

#미나리 Minari (리 아이삭 정 감독, 2020)

코리안아메리칸 리 아이삭 정 감독의 자전적 영화. 아칸소 작은 마을의 트레일러에 살면서 야채 농장을 운영하려는 한인 가족의 이야기를 그렸다. 윤여정씨는 아버지(스티븐 연 분)의 장모 순자 할머니 역을 맡아 강인하고, 자애롭고, 유머러스한 캐릭터로 등장한다. 올 아카데미 작품, 감독, 각본, 남우주연, 여우조연, 음악상 등 6개 부문 후보에 올라 있다. 선댄스영화제 심사위원대상 & 관객상, 골든글로브상 외국어영화상 수상작. 2시간.

영화 프로듀서 이찬실(강말금)이 감독, 배우들과 술자리를 즐기던 중 감독이 과음으로 갑자기 사망한다. 이 때문에 영화 제작은 취소되고, 실직한 찬실은 이태원 산동네의 하숙집에 살며 가사 도우미를 한다. 윤여정씨는 찬실로부터 한글을 배우는 집주인 할머니로 출연한다. 홍상수 감독 영화 10편의 프로듀서(전원사) 출신 김초희 감독의 장편 데뷔작. 부산영화제 한국감독조합상, 서울독립영화제 관객상 수상. 1시간 36분.

In this spunky female sendup of Hong Sang-soo—the first directorial feature from his producer Kim Cho-hee—Lee Chan-sil (Kang Mal-geum) is a down-on-her-luck film producer whose longtime collaborator has died suddenly, leaving her jobless and penniless. A friend of Chan-sil’s, sympathetic to her plight, hires her to do domestic chores around her house, and soon sparks of romance fly between the young woman and her new employer’s French teacher. A smart meta-narrative on the art of filmmaking and the sacrifices it requires, Lucky Chan-sil is also a feisty, ironic “woman’s picture,” propelled by the transition from female sacrifice to female empowerment, and features a memorable supporting performance from Youn Yuh-jung as Chan-sil’s charmingly frank older landlady. 종로 일대에서 노인들을 상대하며 살아가는 ‘박카스 할머니’ 소영(윤여정 분)은 ‘죽여주게 잘 하는’ 여자로 소문났다. 어느날 뇌졸중으로 단골 고객 송노인(전무송 분)이 자신을 죽여달라는 간절한 부탁을 받게된다. '스캔들-조선남녀상열지사)'의 이재용 감독이 메거폰을 잡았다. 몬트리올 판타지아 영화제 각본상, 여우주연상 수상작. 1시간 50분.

As funny and elegant as it is gently devastating, the most recent film from director E J-yong tells a tale of shame and disgrace that feels as fresh as an open wound. Youn Yuh-jung gives a masterful star turn as a sixtysomething prostitute who spends her days in public parks, offering bottles of Bacchus (a brand-name energy drink) to old men as a code for sexual favors. When a touch of gonorrhea leaves her unable to ply her trade, she is forced to find other services to offer her clients and soon turns to a darker business. In the hands of another director, this setup could have been grounds for crass exploitation, but E (Actresses) eschews satire for a lighthearted yet incisive examination of taboo topics, including the U.S. military’s use of prostitutes and the shameful neglect of the elderly in contemporary Korea. #다른 나라에서 In Another Country (홍상수 감독, 2012)

영화과 학생(정유미 분)이 빚 때문에 엄마(윤여정 분)와 함께 해변마을로 내려가면서 벌어지는 이야기. 프랑스 간판배우 이자벨 위페르가 세명의 안느(감독, 한국남자를 사랑하는 유부녀, 한국여자에게 남편을 빼앗긴 이혼녀) 역을 맡았다. 도올 김용옥 교수를 비롯 유준상, 문소리, 문성근, 권해효가 출연한다. 1시간 29분.

At once a breezy vacation comedy and a fascinating formal experiment, In Another Country begins with a film student (Jung Yu-mi) and her mother (Youn Yuh-jang) hiding out in a seaside town. While there, the restless student begins penning a screenplay, set entirely in their present location, which tells three distinct variations on the same story of infidelity and social and sexual frustration, concerning a French woman named Anne’s (Isabelle Huppert) visit to the town and her subsequent encounters with its residents (and with the language barrier separating them). Huppert turns in a typically brilliant (and understatedly complex) performance as three variants of the same woman, proving herself to be an ideal match for Hong Sang-soo’s narrative gamesmanship. But she’s not alone: Youn, who has often played the sage elder in Hong’s films, is delightful here as a ne’er-do-well matriarch in the framing story. <FSLC>

#하녀 The Housemaid (임상수 감독, 2010)

김기영 감독의 걸작 '하녀'(1960)의 리메이크. 부자 훈(이정재 분)집의 하녀 은이(전도연 분)는 선배 하녀 병식(윤여정 분)으로부터 일을 배운다. 어느날 주인 부부를 따라 별장에 간 은이는 훈의 유혹으로 임신까지 되는데... 윤여정씨는 대종상, 청룡영화상 등 10여개의 연기상을 수상했다. 1시간 47분.

As a young woman in the early 1970s, Youn Yuh-jung launched her screen acting career with a pair of indelible collaborations with director Kim Ki-young, whose vividly expressionistic melodramas tended to center on the psychosexual machinations of a bewitching femme fatale. It’s fitting, then, that she should return for a crucial role in Im Sang-soo’s sultry reworking of Kim’s 1960 classic, The Housemaid. Here, Youn plays Miss Cho, the aging housekeeper for a wealthy couple whose seemingly happy marriage is upended by the arrival of a young, alluring new maid. As a fraught love triangle takes shape—under Miss Cho’s watchful eye—acts of vengeance and counter-vengeance compound, and the psychic stakes grow precariously high, driving toward an explosive conclusion that is as pointedly scathing as it is hauntingly sad. <FSLC>

윤여정 Youn Yuh-jung 

1947년 경기도 개성에서 태어나 서울에서 성장했다. 이화여고 졸업 후 한양대학교 국문과를 중퇴했다. 1966년 TBC 3기 공채 탤런트로 뽑혀, 1971년 김기영 감독의 '화녀'에서 작곡가(남궁원) 가정을 파탄에 빠트리는 광기 어린 하녀 역을 맡아 대종상, 청룡영화상을 수상했다. 이후 김기영 감독의 '충녀'에도 출연했다. 1975년 가수 조영남과 결혼 후 미국으로 이민해 생활하다가 1984년 귀국 후 연기에 복귀했다. TV 드라마에서는 김수현 작가의 '사랑이 뭐길래' '목욕탕집 남자들' 등, 영화는 박철수 감독의 '어미'를 비롯, 임상수 감독의 '바람난 가족' '하녀', 홍상수 감독의 '하하하' '다른 나라에서' '자유의언덕', 그리고 리 아이삭 정 감독의 '미나리'에 출연하며 최근 연기인생의 황금기를 맞았다. 코리안아메리칸 작가 이민진의 소설 '파친코(Pachinko)'을 원작으로 한 미 드라마에 캐스팅됐다.
