빌 드 블라지오 뉴욕시장이 9월 62%가 직장을 다시 오픈할 것으로 기대했지만, 델타 변이 바이러스 감염자가 급증하면서 사무실 복귀를 연기하고 있다. 구글과 뉴욕타임스 등은 직원들의 재택 근무를 최소 10월까지 연장했으며, 뉴욕에서 1만9천명을 고용하고 있는 아마존은 사무실 복귀를 내년 1월로 연기했다.
