나탈리 스터츠만(Nathalie Stutzmann, )이 아틀란타심포니(Atlanta Symphony, 56)의 음악감독으로 임명되면서 미 메이저 오케스트라 25개 중 현직 여성 지휘자로 기록됐다. 지난 8월 볼티모어심포니오케스트라의 음악감독 마린 알솝(Marin Alsop, 64)이 14년의 임기를 마쳤기 때문에 나탈리 스터츠만은 두번째 여성 음악감독이다.

한편, 김은선(Eun Sun Kim) 지휘자는 올 8월부터 샌프란시스코 오페라 음악감독을 맡으며, 미 메이저 오페라하우스 최초의 여성 음악감독으로 기록됐다. 

2014년 현재 미국엔 약 1천 224개의 오케스트라가 활동 중인 것으로 집계됐다.
