영국의 미술 역사학자 케이티 헤셀(Katy Hessel)이 2천명을 대상으로 여성 화가 3명의 이름을 대라고 설문조사한 결과 30%만이 댈 수 있었다. 서양미술사는 백인남성 중심이었고, 여전히 미술계는 가부장적이기 때문이다. 케이티 헤셀은 오는 8월 '남성 없는 여성 미술 이야기(The Story of Art Without Men)'을 출간한다.

2016년 워싱턴 DC의 여성미술관(National Museum for Women in Arts)는 #5WomenArtists 캠페인을 벌인 바 있다.
