업스테이트 뉴욕 욘커스에 사는 아시안 여성(67)이 11일 아파트 문 앞에서 흑인 타멜 에스코(Tammel Esco, 42)으로부터 125회 구타당했다. 피해 여성은 인근 변원에서 안면골절 파괴와 뇌출혈 치료를 받고 있다. 욘커스 경찰에 따르면, 에스코는 아파트 건물 앞에서 피해자에게 "Asian bitch"라고 불렀는데 무시당하자 폭행을 저질렀다고. 경찰에 체포된 에스코는 살인미수/인종혐오로 기소될 예정이다. 코로나 팬데믹 기간 아시안 혐오범죄는 약 1만1천건이 보고됐다.
