주택복권 당첨? 뉴욕시는 2014년부터 저렴한 아파트(Affordable Housing) 프로젝트 'Housing Connect'를 운영하며 저소득층 뉴요커들에게 4만5천500채의 신규 아파트를 저렴한 렌트로 제공해왔다. 미시간주 세인트 출신 청년 조쉬 비안치(Josh Biancgi, 30)는 우여곡절 끝에 '주택복권'에 당첨됐다. 

10살 때 합창단원으로 뉴욕에 왔다가 뉴욕살이아 로망이 된 청년은 2011년 메리마운트 맨해튼 칼리지에 입학했다. 이후  브루클린 부쉬윅, 브루클린 하이츠 렌탈 아파트를 거쳐 2021년 12월 수차례의 응모 후 마지막 시도에서 베드포드-스타이브샌트의 1베드룸 아파트, 렌트 $2,300에 당첨됐다. 뉴욕타임스가 전하는 비안치의 뉴욕 스토리.
