메트로폴리탄 뮤지엄과 현대자동차(제네시스)가 뮤지엄 건물 5애브뉴 외관 현대미술 커미션 시리즈 5년 파트너쉽 'Genesis Facade Commission'을 체결했다. 그 첫번째 위임작은 한인 작가 이불(Lee Bul)의 신작으로 9월 12일부터 2025년 5월 27일까지 전시될 예정이다. 현대자동차는 올 2월 휘트니뮤지엄(Whitney Museum of American Art)과 10년 파트너쉽을 체결, 휘트니 비엔날레(Whitney Biennial)과 ‘현대 테라스 커미션(Hyundai Terrace Commission)’을 후원할 예정이다. 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Genesis Announce Partnership for The Met Facade Commission Series

(New York, July 23, 2024)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Genesis announced today a five-year partnership to sponsor the annual contemporary art commission series for the Museum's Fifth Avenue facade niches. Each year, The Met invites an artist to create new works of art, establishing a dialogue between the artist's practice, The Met collection, the physical Museum, and The Met's audiences. The series will now be called the Genesis Facade Commission, and this year it will feature new works by Lee Bul (September 12, 2024–May 27, 2025).

The Museum's Beaux-Arts Fifth Avenue facade was designed by the architect and founding Museum Trustee Richard Morris Hunt and opened to the public in December 1902. Since 2019, the facade has featured work by contemporary artists Wangechi Mutu (2019), Carol Bove (2021), Hew Locke (2022), and, most recently, Nairy Baghramian (2023). The Genesis Facade Commission: Lee Bul, Long Tail Halo will be the fifth in the series, and the 2025 Genesis Facade Commission will feature new works by Jeffrey Gibson.
