We’re thrilled to unveil the design for the Oscar L. and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing at The Met! Designed by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, the wing will provide a new world-class home for our extraordinary collection of 20th and 21st-century art. Set to open in 2030, the new wing will increase gallery space by nearly 50 percent and address important accessibility, infrastructure, and sustainability needs.

Drawing inspiration from the Museum’s architectural legacy, diverse art holdings, and setting within Central Park, Escobedo’s design seamlessly blends tradition with modernity. The Met is the only museum in New York that can display 20th- and 21st-century works alongside art from different centuries and cultures, and these new galleries will bring the modern and contemporary collection into new dialogues with the rest of the Museum. The Tang Wing will feature iconic views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline year-round from indoor and outdoor spaces, with an expanded Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden on the fourth floor and a new outdoor terrace on the fifth floor. 

The Tang Wing will be an inclusive, transformative space, reflecting The Met’s commitment to presenting art that speaks to everyone.
